Brain-friendly design in practice
SIX PRINCIPLES TO GUIDE HOW WE DESIGN, PLAN AND EVALUATE OUR BUILD ENVIRONMENT
PRINCIPLE 1. Good built environment actively enriches the quality of life of local inhabitants by fostering stronger and more respectful relationships
PRINCIPLE 2. Respect is built through integration of different socio-economic groups, ages, faiths and heritages of origin
PRINCIPLE 3. Urban design should reflect the principles of ‘biophilic’ design, maximising fresh air, natural materials, green space, blue space, natural sunlight and sustainable design
PRINCIPLE 4. The environment should reflect the aspirational culture of the region and enable social activities that reinforce this identity
PRINCIPLE 5. The engagement of the people who will be living in the environment in a way that enables co-creation of key ‘icon’ spaces is central to its final success
PRINCIPLE 6. Ultimately, the space should support security belonging, creativity, pride, connection, efficiency, and instil a sense of hope for the future.
